4) What did the European country gain from your discoveries (Wealth - be specific, territory, influence, trade in something in particular, colonies, fisheries?)
5) How were the countries you visited influenced? (Did the local people get rich from trade? Did they gain European goods? Did they gain a new religion? Did they lose anything from contact (land, people, goods stolen. disease, inter racial marriages, new groups of people forced to live in their lands, etc.)
6) Could the explorers have done things differently IN YOUR GROUPS OPINION, to have had a more positive interaction with the countries that they explored and helped to colonize in your opinion? Explain how they could have made contact and traded without having a negative impact on the people they met... is it possible?

The RACE for RICHES!

The Race for wealth, knowledge and prestige began after the retelling of the exploits of Marco Polo and of his adventures. The merchant class was expanding and growing, many people became interested in trying to find new ways to Asia but along the way came across new lands, cultures, ideas, wealth and opportunities for colonization.
For this project, your group will become a specific explorer and crew, sailing for the country they had originally sailed for and on the journey's they actually went on. Whatever YOUR group discovers, will be added to your countries wealth and notoriety for points for your whole group. Individual projects will go toward your final mark but the maps and lists will be shared.
There are several projects for completion to get you to the ULTIMATE wealth:
